History (Wikipedia):

From where we get Saw Duang- Small history below:

Our knowledge about the instrument is from Wikipedia. As per Wikipedia, we shared this small history to let our customers know about the history. Thai musicians adopted musical instruments from Chinese instruments; however, they made adaptations. Furthermore, the Thai kingdom in the Indo-China peninsula expanded the variety of musical instruments when it came into contact with India. Later on, Thailand also adopted western instruments such as the violin and the organ. Additionally, musicians may have copied saw duang from the Huqin of China. Moreover, the people of the Northern provinces gave the name based on its shape, which resembles a trap (duang dak yae or ด้วงดักแย้) used to catch edible lizards.

Musicians use the saw duang (Thai: ซอด้วง, pronounced [sɔː dûəŋ], RTGS: so duang), a two-stringed instrument, in traditional Thai music. Specifically, the bow made from horsetail hair produces the sound as it goes between the strings made from silk. Furthermore, the player has to tilt the bow to switch from one string to another. Additionally, musicians play the saw duang vertically on their lap. Consequently, it creates a bright tone, unlike the Saw u, which produces a mellow sound. Moreover, another instrument that is similar to the saw duang is the Chinese stringed instrument called Huqin.

Craftsmen can make the neck (Thuan Saw) from different kinds of hard wood. The upper part of the neck has a quadrangle shape while the lower part tapers and inserts into the sound box. The tuning pegs (Luk-bid) face the same direction as the Thuan Saw. They are made of wood or ivory and have a cylindrical shape.  This provides a basic history of the instrument.
